Summary
Seeking first to understand is basically you seeking first to understand, it's written in the words. Seeking first to Understand is listening and considering what the other person is saying. Not always being the hero and trying to fix the problem before you really know whats going on. You have to take your shoes off and step in to someone elses. To understand you have to listen to what they are not saying. Understanding the moral of what they are saying, not just what they are saying in words. Why would it matter? Well where would you be in life if you didnt ever think about how the other person is feeling or take off your shoes and step into someone elses. It also matters because you can be trusted as an example from the reading: The son wanted to take the car out but his dad said no. He understood what he was saying and tried to compromise. It could have turned in to a fight but the boy understood the dad. Once you have these skills then you can know how to compromise and get more out of it then you thought.
